SOFWARE. Panasonic Completes Acquisition of Blue Yonder

As announced last March (see NL #36), Panasonic is confirming the finalization of the acquisition of Blue Yonder. Formerly known as JDA Software, the Scottsdale (Arizona) based Supply Chain Management software company has signed a joint venture with Panasonic in 2019 to “leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) in order to enable and accelerate autonomous supply chain and decision making” before selling a 20% stake of its capital to the Japanese company in 2020. Back then, that $800 million transaction had valued Blue Yonder at $5.5 bn. With $5.6 bn being offered to Blackstone Group and New Mountain Capital, for a total investment by Panasonic amounting to $7.1 bn including repayment of outstanding debt, Blue Yonder’s value reaches new heights at $8.5 bn. With it Luminate platform (Retail, Logistics, Planning, Operations, Labor Optimization…), Blue Yonder helps some 3,000 of the world’s largest companies (Best Buy, Coca Cola, DHL, L.L. Bean, Mahindra, Michelin, Walmart, Walgreen etc…) improve supply chain operations (planning, transport, warehousing) and overall efficiency.
